GB international and new Gladiator, Patrick Whelan joined Grant Young on the Gladcast to discuss his new move to Scotland as he joins Gareth Murray’s side for the 23/24 campaign.
Throughout the episode, Pat discussed his career so far, experiences of the CEBL and GB Basketball over the last two summers, and how the two times have compared.
Heading into the new season, Whelan has been clear with his intent and excitement of joining the club. When signing, he said on Twitter that he was “Truly blessed to be given this opportunity”, adding, “Let’s do something special!”
Over the last three seasons, Patrick has played with Rob Paternostro’s Leicester Riders, after playing in Spain, D2 basketball in the States, and growing up through the youth system at Manchester Magic. Alongside his brother, Jordan, Patrick was a part of an interesting 2022 BBL Cup Final – where the two faced against each other for the first time in their careers.
The Brit has proved to be one of the best homegrown players in the league, last season being the only unanimous name in the BBL’s All-British Team of the Year.
