Great Britain under 20s international, Kian Omer-Jones, has joined Miguel Ortega’s WBBL squad, making her the last confirmed new signing of the off-season, completing the roster ahead of the WBBL and EuroCup campaigns. Following a solid European Championship campaign coached under Chantelle Handy, Omer-Jones makes the move to Scotland on a two-year deal.
Last season, the impressive 19-year-old guard/forward played with Sheffield Hatters, averaging 3.9 PPG and 1.5 RPG in a limited role, playing 13 minutes a night. This comes following a youth career spent with Barking Abbey and WBBL Lions in London, followed by a stint in the States with JUCO side Laramie County.
This Summer, the 3-point shooting Londoner spent time in Craiova, Romania, with Great Britain’s U20 side, coached by Chantelle Handy. Across 6 games, she averaged 6.2 PPG, 3 RPG and 0.8 APG. In a tournament-high vs Georgia, she put up 19 points and 4 steals, making 5 three-pointers.
Being a young professional, the teenager will join the squad eager to learn from an experienced playing squad and coaches, excited to develop her existing fast playing style.
Upon signing with Gladiators, Omer-Jones said: “I’m extremely grateful to have the opportunity to play at a high level surrounded by experienced professionals. As a young player, I’m looking forward to developing, learning from those around me and being a part of a great club!”
