The Caledonia Gladiators suffered a tough 60-84 loss to the London Lions in the BBL Championship on Wednesday night. From the opening tip, the Lions dominated on both ends of the court, building a small lead in the first quarter and expanding it throughout the game.
After the first quarter, the score was 18-21 in favor of the Lions. The Gladiators fought back in the second quarter to keep the game close, but the Lions managed to extend their lead to a huge 19 points by halftime, with the score at 31-50.
Despite their efforts, the Gladiators were unable to overcome the Lions’ deep roster, and the visitors extended their lead in the second half. After three quarters, the score was 43-64, and the Lions maintained their lead in the fourth quarter to secure the strong win, handing Gladiators their first loss at the Emirates Arena this season.
A highlight of the game for the Gladiators was the first professional points from rookies Jack Hencher and William Kemp. Hencher finished with 3 points, while Kemp had 2 points 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. Gareth Murray’s side also had solid individual performances from David Sloan and Jeremiah Bailey.
High-flying Patrick Tapé was named the Slaters sponsored game MVP – totalling 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists despite the disappointing loss.
Overall, it was a tough night for the Gladiators, who will look to bounce back in their next matchup. The team will look to regroup and make adjustments in order to come out on top of closest rivals, Newcastle Eagles in the BBL Trophy matchup on Friday. Get your tickets HERE!
