This Friday, 16th December, Caledonia Gladiators BBL welcome Cheshire Phoenix to the Emirates Arena for another exciting night of British Basketball League Championship action. Ben Thomas’ roster travels north following a tough home defeat to London Lions. Gareth Murray’s men are looking to continue their recent great form, beating the Newcastle Eagles on Sunday evening to keep at their unbeaten run at home.
The squad have been on fire individually, with David Sloan and Jeremiah Bailey leading the way. With Sloan second in the league in scoring, and Bailey earning three all-star five recognitions in the past three weeks.
In the past two head-to-head matchups, Cheshire Phoenix have came out on top, winning 77-73 and 78-61 on both occasions. However, Phoenix will be looking to prove themselves on the road, an area in which both teams, who sit 6th and 7th in the Championship, have struggled this season.
Gladiators are coming off a double-header weekend against Leicester Riders and Newcastle Eagles. The former saw them travel home with a 100-67 loss under their belts, but they bounced back on Sunday, defeating Marc Steutel’s Eagles in an end-to-end game that finished 81-77.
The Scottish side will face a tough challenge. Man of the moment, Jeremiah Bailey said: “They are a very well-prepared team, we’re 0-2 against Cheshire and now they’re coming to our house. We feel good, they have to come to us. Right now, we’re cooking a bit here, we’re doing a lot of good things, so it’ll be interesting to put everything together against them and it’ll be a good game.”
