The debut of Robbie Peers as Head Coach and the Gladiators new players was ruined by a loss away from home in Sheffield. In a tough matchup against top of the table, Sheffield Sharks, under the new head coach, Robbie Peers, the Caledonia Gladiators lost 86 – 71 away from home to fall to a 1 – 5 record in the Super League Basketball Championship.
The first quarter saw the Gladiators stunned with the Sharks taking the story lead for the jump. The score at the end of the first quarter was 29 – 15 to the Sheffield Sharks.
The second quarter saw the Sheffield Sharks match their first quarter score of 29, with the Gladiators increasing their quarter score to 17. By the time half-time came about, the Sheffield Sharks had found themselves firmly in the driving seat, with a 26-point lead. However, the Gladiators weren’t going to let them run away with the game and continued to fight in the second half.
Despite falling behind in the first half, the Caledonia Gladiators were determined to improve their performance in the second, winning the second half and reducing the deficit they found themselves in. However, it would not be enough to overcome the 26-points difference that was built up throughout the first half.
The Caledonia Gladiators started to fight their feet as they took the third quarter 15 – 18. This success was continued in the fourth quarter, with the Gladiators taking a 13 – 21 win during the 10 minutes of the fourth quarter. However, this was not enough to come back into the game completely, with the final score seeing the Sheffield Sharks taking the 86 – 71 win.
