In a move aimed at propelling the Caledonia Gladiators’ basketball programme to new heights, the club can announce Miguel Ortega’s expanded role as Head of Basketball. While continuing in role as Head Coach of the women’s team, Miguel will also now have oversight across all aspects of basketball performance within Caledonia Gladiators. This includes from the initial engagement with young players to steering the strategic direction and operations of the professional teams.

Miguel‘s expertise in coaching across Europe positions him as an invaluable asset to the Caledonia Gladiators and this transition highlights the club’s commitment to nurturing coaching and playing talent while guiding them at every stage of their basketball journey.

Having joined the Gladiators as the Women’s Head Coach in the summer of 2022, Miguel has made an impressive mark on the club, guiding the team to a commendable 2nd place finish in the league during his debut campaign and winning the Coach of the Year. The current season has shown continued success, marked by the Gladiators’ impressive debut in European competition and strong showing in the Women’s British Basketball League.

Speaking on his new role, Miguel said: “I am delighted to take up the position as Head of Basketball for Caledonia Gladiators and I am looking forward to helping shape the basketball programme  to ensure our club thrives on the court and offers young Scottish players a pathway to play at the highest level.”
