In our second FIBA Europe Cup game, the Caledonia Gladiators were outmatched by a well-organised Dijon side, losing 54-90. Despite a promising start, the Gladiators struggled to maintain consistency across four quarters, with Dijon pulling away through strong defence and efficient scoring in late in the third after Gladiators pulled the game back to 6 points.

Caledonia began the game with intensity, with Tanner Stuckman and Prince Onwas leading the charge in the opening quarter. Stuckman hit a three-pointer midway through the first to cut the deficit to 9-11, while Onwas contributed with rebounds and strong defensive play. However, turnovers from Isaiah Hill and missed layups from Onwas hindered the Gladiators’ progress. Dijon capitalised, with Axel Julien and Gavin Ware controlling the tempo and punishing Caledonia’s mistakes. By the end of the first quarter, Caledonia trailed 14-19.

Dijon extended their lead in the second quarter, taking advantage of Caledonia’s offensive struggles. Despite efforts from Theo Hughes and Isaiah Hill, missed opportunities allowed Dijon to maintain control. Markis McDuffie and Christian Sengfelder added key points for Dijon, who went into the half with a commanding 38-26 lead.

Second Half: Caledonia came out fighting in the third quarter, spearheaded by Trevond Barnes, who delivered an all-around performance. Barnes sank a crucial three-pointer early in the quarter, and his hustle on both ends of the floor gave the Gladiators hope of a comeback. He was the standout for Caledonia, providing energy and leadership throughout the game. Despite this, Dijon’s defensive organisation kept the Gladiators at bay, with Joshua Obiesie and Axel Julien continuing to find ways through the defence.

As the game entered the final quarter, Caledonia’s fatigue showed. Dijon’s David Holston and Gavin Ware took control, with Caledonia unable to close the gap despite flashes of offensive firepower from Prince Onwas and Stuckman. A series of missed shots and turnovers in the closing minutes sealed Caledonia’s fate, as Dijon ran out 54-90 winners.

MVP:

Trevond Barnes was Caledonia’s standout player, contributing on both ends of the floor with scoring, rebounds, and defence.
