Gladiators had six representatives travel to London to compete in the British Basketball League’s first all-star game since 2001, and the very first Women’s British Basketball League version of the competition.
Kirsty Brown, Ariadna Pujol, Laken James, Clifton Moore Jr., Gareth Murray, and Dan Petts all played their part in a successful and entertaining event for those at the Copper Box.
KB, Ari, and Laken played solidly in the women’s showcase for Vanessa Ellis’ North squad. Brown put up 5 points and 5 rebounds, Pujol had 5 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, and James contributed 7 points and 2 rebounds – all three within less than 22 minutes. Overall, the game was a battle on the offensive and defensive end, with the South coming out 81-99 victors, and London Lions’ Temi Fagbenle picking up the game MVP.
Clifton Moore then went on to compete in the dunk contest as a last-minute entrant alongside Josh Sharma, Jalon Pipkins, and Trejon Jacob. Lions’ Josh Sharma got the dub with an impressive dunk to conclude the event. Moore threw down a few impressive slams, but it wasn’t enough to come out victorious in the event.
For the men’s game, Clifton was the only Gladiators player on the court for Head Coach Gareth Murray’s side, who Dan Petts assisted. He put up 4 points – two huge dunks, also adding 5 rebounds and 2 assists to the stat sheet. The game was a highlight-reel of dunks, long-distance threes and flashy passes that finished a huge 116-149 in favour of the South.
All focus goes onto league action now as the men’s and women’s sides push for the playoffs, hoping to head into the post-season with the best possible seeding. Secure your tickets for the next home game as the women’s side takes on London Lions on the 29th of March HERE!
