Unbelievable night at Playsport as the Caledonia Gladiators women progress to the TROPHY FINALS, the women fought tooth and nail against the formally undefeated Sheffield Hatters. An amazing show by the Caledonia Gladiators who showed exactly what British Basketball can achieved through home grown talents, with Scot, Hannah Robb shining in a MVP Performance to take her team to the Trophy Final!
The first quarter saw the gladiators take the lead as Harris wins the tip and scores a free throw to be the first to put points on the board the, and Mathilde Domenger with 2 crucial 3 pointers, Gladiators kept the lead throughout as they finish the quarter with a 4-point lead.
The second quarter saw both teams battling with nothing between them, with the second 10 minutes ending in a dead heat at 23 – 23, making the half-time score being 44 – 40. Both teams showed their heart on defensive, with the Gladiators fighting to keep their lead, with every player hustling on defence to maintain their 4-point lead entering half time.
The intense defence remained entering the third quarter, with both teams preventing each other from scoring in the first two and a half minutes of action, only being broken by a free throw by the Sheffield Hatters. A low scoring third quarter, saw the Caledonia Gladiators take a larger lead entering the final 10 minutes with the score of the quarter being 11 – 7 to the Gladiators, giving them a 8-point lead, 55 – 47.
With 10 minutes left, the Gladiators could see the final in their future. However, Sheffield were not giving up their hopes without a fight. Both teams fought to the very end with the Hatters cutting the Gladiators lead to just 6 points, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Gladiators took victory from the undefeated Hatters team to make it to their first Final in program history. A huge success for the women on the court, the coaching staff and everyone involved with the Caledonia Gladiators.
With the celebration on going, the focus never fades as the Gladiators look to their next game in the Super League Basketball Championship next Saturday on the road to the London Lions. We can’t wait to see the women back in action again next week and our diaries already have January 26th circled for the Trophy Final in Birmingham! We can’t wait to watch these women compete for their first silverware and a chance to make history for the Caledonia Gladiators!
