Caledonia Gladiators Fall Short Against Sheffield Hatters at Home

The Caledonia Gladiators continued their 2025–26 Betty Codona Trophy campaign with a competitive showing against one of the league’s strongest sides, falling 67–79 to the B. Braun Sheffield Hatters at home. While the result didn’t go their way, there were plenty of encouraging signs, particularly from the bench and the team’s defensive energy.

Sheffield came out strong, using their experience and efficiency to build an early lead. But Caledonia refused to back down, showing resilience and fighting spirit throughout all four quarters. Despite trailing by as much as 16, the Gladiators rallied multiple times, cutting into the deficit with defensive pressure and transition play that kept the game alive deep into the second half.

Tierra Hodges led the scoring for the Gladiators with 16 points and 7 rebounds, battling in the paint and providing a steady presence throughout. Annie Warren added 11 points and 5 assists, while the bench made a big impact. Maura Fitzpatrick, 14 points contributed off the bench, giving the team a real spark and shifting momentum at key moments.

Statistically, the Gladiators matched Sheffield on the boards with 37 rebounds apiece and also recorded 8 steals to the Hatters’ 10, highlighting their commitment on the defensive end. They also won the bench points battle 25–21, showing the depth and potential of the squad moving forward. Though the team shot just 35% from the field, they created good looks throughout the game—shots that will start to fall with rhythm and confidence as the season progresses.

While Sheffield’s experience showed in their ball movement and efficiency, the Gladiators can take real positives from their own stretches of dominance, especially their biggest scoring run of 9 points and strong second-half competitiveness. The effort, energy, and contributions from younger and new players bode well for what’s to come.

With a solid foundation in place and a clear sense of togetherness on court, the Gladiators will look to build on this performance and continue developing as a group. The Gladiators look to bounce back next weekend as they head down south to face rivals, the Newcastle Eagles at the Vertu Motors Arena.
