Job Title: Assistant Head Coach
Team: Caledonia Gladiators Basketball (Men)
Location: Playsport, East Kilbride.
Job Summary:
Caledonia Gladiators are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the position of Assistant Head Coach. The applicant will work closely with the Head Coach Gareth Murray to develop and implement effective strategies, training programs, and game plans to ensure the team’s success. This position requires strong leadership, communication, scouting, video and coaching skills. Caledonia Gladiators currently compete in the British Basketball League and it’s associated competitions and have also taken part in the FIBA Europe Cup.
Key Responsibilities:
Player Development:
- Assist in the development of players’ skills, both individually and as a team.
- Conduct regular training sessions to improve players’ technical abilities, physical conditioning, and basketball IQ.
- Provide constructive feedback to players to enhance their performance and foster a positive learning environment.
Game Strategy and Planning:
- Collaborate with the Head Coach to create game plans and strategies tailored to exploit opponents’ weaknesses.
- Analyze game footage and scout opposing teams to identify key players and strategic opportunities.
- Make real-time decisions during games to adjust strategies based on the team’s performance and opponents’ actions.
Team Management:
- Assist in managing team dynamics, discipline, and morale.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship among players and staff members.
- Work closely with other coaching and support staff to ensure seamless operations within the team.
Recruitment and Talent Identification:
Assist in scouting and recruiting talented players to strengthen the team’s roster.
Player Analysis and Performance Evaluation:
Analyze player performance data to identify areas for improvement and track progress over time.
Provide regular performance evaluations and feedback to players to facilitate their growth and development.
Community Engagement:
- Participate in community outreach programs and events to promote the team and engage with fans and sponsors.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience at the professional level.
- In-depth knowledge of basketball strategies, techniques, and training methods.
- Strong leadership and motivational skills with the ability to inspire and mentor athletes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively work with players, coaching staff, and team management.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing situations and make informed decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in using video analysis tools and software for game and player analysis.
Remuneration:
- Salary will depend on experience
- In special circumstances housing and transport can be provided
Bachelor’s degree in sports science, physical education, or a related field is preferred but not essential.
Coaching certifications from reputable basketball organizations (e.g., USA Basketball, FIBA, FECC, Major federations) are a plus.
