Gladiators captain, Fahro Alihodzic, has been named in the British Basketball League Team of the Week following his impressive runout in a statement road win over the Plymouth City Patriots on Friday.
Alihodzic, a GB international, put up an impressive 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, leading his side in scoring on their way to a W and winning the Gladiators’ game MVP on the night, too. His teammate, Trent Buttrick, also stood out, with a solid 16-point, 14-rebound double-double. Fahro also had 12 points and 5 rebounds in Sunday’s loss to Bristol Flyers.
Fahro joined the squad in February of this year, as the Gladiators were pushing to finish the 22/23 season on form. He came to Scotland at the same time as Aljami Durham, reuniting with his former GB teammate Gareth Murray, as his head coach. It was thanks to his help to the side, that Caledonia picked up a huge Trophy win over the Cheshire Phoenix in front of a packed 6,000 seater Emirates Arena.
Now, as the club has moved on to PlaySport, Fahro has picked up the role of captain, leading from the front in the side’s British Basketball League and FIBA Europe Cup efforts.
So far this season, the centre is averaging 10.2 PPG, the team’s fourth highest, alongside 6.7 RPG and 1.7 APG. The standout performance in Plymouth saw him hit his season-high in points, followed by 16 at home to Paul James’ side.
