Gladiators Fall in Fierce Battle Against Sheffield Sharks

The Caledonia Gladiators fought tooth and nail in a physical encounter against the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks but ultimately fell short, 77–71, in a game that went down to the wire at the Canon Medical Arena.

From the opening tip, both sides exchanged blows in a defensive struggle where every basket was earned the hard way. The Gladiators inside presence was led by Kevin Allen, who once again proved to be a dominant force in the paint, posting 27 points and 5 rebounds on an impressive 11-of-17 shooting. His relentless play kept the Gladiators within striking distance all night.

Toto Fagbenle added 8 points and 3 boards, providing energy and second-chance opportunities, while Jett Speelman chipped in with 8 points, showing composure under pressure. Despite a tough shooting night from beyond the arc (just 23% from three), the Gladiators’ fight never waned — clawing back from multiple double-digit deficits.

Caledonia’s depth played its part as Ethan Wright contributed 9 points, and captain Fraser Malcolm battled through a physical Sheffield defence to add valuable minutes and stability.

Defensively, the Gladiators held firm on the boards with a commanding 49 rebounds to Sheffield’s 38, showing grit and hustle throughout. However, the Sharks’ timely shot-making and efficiency at the free-throw line (16-of-21) proved the difference in the closing moments.

As the final buzzer sounded, it was clear this was more than a regular-season clash — it was a battle of willpower. The Gladiators may have left Sheffield without the win, but their resilience, physicality, and unity on the court will serve them well as the season unfolds.

Next up, Caledonia will look to regroup and channel their fighting spirit into their next fixture as they continue their hunt for victory in the SLB Championship.
