The Caledonia Gladiators were back at home as they played host to the Leicester Riders this evening in more Super League Basketball action! The Gladiators would start the game strong but ultimately fall to the Riders by double digits.
The Caledonia Gladiators would take the early lead against the Leicester Riders in front of a loud Playsport Arena. The Gladiators would take a strong 10-point lead in the first 5 minutes of the game, aided by impressive scoring, missing just two shots in that 5-minute period. The Gladiators would continue their impressive start throughout the first quarter and take a strong 8-point lead. The score at the end of the first quarter was 27 – 19 to the Caledonia Gladiators.
The Riders would fight their way back into the game on the road, cutting their deficit to just 3 points by the end of the first half. The Leicester Riders would kick off scoring in the second quarter, cutting the lead to just 1 within the first 3 minutes of the game. The Rider would take their first lead of the game since early in the first quarter, but it would be short lived as the Gladiators took back control and were able to maintain their lead until the end of the first half.
The score at the end of the half was 45 – 42 to the Caledonia Gladiators.
Despite taking the first half win, the Gladiators would soon find themselves down to Leicester Riders by the end of the third quarter this Friday evening. The Riders would take the lead to start the quarter, but both teams would push for the lead throughout the first minutes of action in the second half. The Leicester Riders would start to push their lead with 5 minutes left in the quarter, going on a 10 – 2 run. The Gladiators would finish the third quarter down by 7 to the Leicester Riders. The score at the end of the third was 56 – 63 to the Leicester Riders.
The Gladiators would suffer from another tough quarter to finish the game at Playsport. The Leicester Riders would put the exclamation mark on the game, taking the 22-point win on the road. The Gladiators would loss the final quarter 10 – 25. A tough quarter saw the Gladiators struggle to score throughout the final quarter, and with tension running high between the two team, the Gladiators would face defeat in front of their home crowd.
The Final Score was 66 – 88 to the Leicester Riders.
