The Caledonia Gladiators hosted the Leicester Riders for the second weekend running at Playsport. The Gladiators looked for revenge after last weekend’s lost and would answer back in Gladiator style. The Gladiators would take the win in front of a loud Playsport Arena, making it two wins in two days against the Riders for the Caledonia Gladiators. The Gladiators took the exciting win, 93 – 88.

The first quarter would see the Leicester Riders take the lead of the game at the end of the 10 minutes. The two teams would trade baskets throughout the first 10 minutes of action at play, with little to separate them. With 5 minutes left of the quarter, the Riders would start to separate themselves from the Gladiators to take the 6-point lead into the second quarter. With both teams struggling from three-point range, the first quarter was decided by the team’s presence under the basket.

The Gladiators were determined to get themselves back into the game in the second quarter and prevent the Riders lead from increasing further. A strong second quarter by the Gladiators saw the game tied at the half with everything left to play for. Both teams would continue to struggle from the three-point line, with the Riders scoring the only basket out of the combined 13 attempts from behind the arc. Despite the Gladiators being unable to convert from behind the arc, they would take the quarter 26 – 20.

The score at half-time was 45 – 45.

The game would remain tight throughout the third quarter here at Playsport, with the Gladiators taking the slight 2-point lead entering the final quarter of action. With both teams finding their range from behind the arc, the arena was on fire. With the fans behind them, the Gladiators pushed forward and kept fighting against a top of the table team in the Leicester Riders. The score entering the final quarter of 67 – 65 to the Caledonia Gladiators.

The last quarter would see the Gladiators keep their slight edge over the Riders. Another intense quarter saw both teams battling hard. The Gladiators continued to show their spirit. Another tight quarter, saw the Gladiators hold onto their lead, taking another huge win this week to knock off the 2nd place team in the league. Today’s MVP would lead his team and put an exclamation point on the night with a monstrous jam with 50 seconds left at the game to push the Gladiators lead to 8 points.

The Caledonia Gladiators would take down two top teams within a few days of each other and keep their fight for the Playoffs alive. The Gladiators will look to go three in role this Wednesday when they take on Surrey 89ers.
