Caledonia Gladiators are heading back to Birmingham to defend their Trophy title after a strong 93 – 95 win over the Essex Rebels in the Betty Codona Trophy Semi-Final. In a fast-paced, hard-fought matchup, The Gladiators composure proved the difference maker against an Essex side that pushed them throughout.
The Gladiators took an early lead away on the road, scoring 9 unanswered points to start the game before the Rebels would reclaim their composure and get back into the game. The Rebels attacked the paint effectively and shot well inside, keeping the game tight through the first half. But the Gladiators gradually gained control through disciplined ball movement, sharper defence, and a dominant showing on the boards, out-rebounding Essex 42–33.

The Gladiators’ had help off the bench in this semi-final match-up, Mathilde Domenger delivered a standout 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting, adding five rebounds and two assits, while Brynn Masikewich chipped in with valuable scoring in limited minutes. Among the starters, Annie Warren led the way with 21 points, 7 assists and7 rebounds, captain Tierra Hodges added 18points, 9 rebounds and an impressive 5 steals, with Maura Fitzpatrick (14) and Hannah Robb (12) adding a fire power in the starting lineup.

Essex stayed within reach thanks to their interior scoring and free-throw efficiency, but every push was met with a Gladiators response.

With their balanced attack and ability to execute under pressure, the Gladiators closed out the win and secured their place in the final. They now return to Birmingham with the chance to defend their 2024–25 Trophy crown, carrying confidence from a gritty and well-earned semi-final performance.
