A busy home schedule for the women saw them face Cardiff Met Archers today at Home, between two EuroCup matches. Gladiator fans were in their seats to witness a commanding win for the Gladiators in the Super League Basketball Championship. A 37-point win sees the Gladiators get their second SLB Championship win.
The Gladiators came out the gate hungry for a victory against Cardiff Met Archers, with a strong 9-2 run in the first 5 minute of action at Playsport. However, Archers kept fighting to prevent the game from slipping away early in the game, but plagued with tough shooting from the field were only able to keep the gap to 6 points, with the quarter ending in a score of 17 – 11.
The next 10-minute quarter saw the Gladiators turn up the heat on both ends of the floor. An unbelieve quarter by the team saw them win the quarter 21 -3, putting them in pole position for the remainder of the game. A strong showing under the basket, and full court defence were too much for the Archer who struggled going into the half.
Gladiators kept their foot on the pedal going into the second half of action at Playsport. Continuing to push the lead in the third quarter. Winning the quarter 18 – 8 and racking up a 32-point lead going into the final quarter. Gladiators continued their strong defence, limiting Cardiff’s shots with strong defensive rebounding. The score entering the final quarter of play was 56 – 22.
Entering the final quarter of basketball, the game was all but finished. Gladiators up 32 points left little hope for the Cardiff Met Archers. However, despite the score this quarter was relatively close with the score during the 10-minutes being 19 – 16. However, it was not enough to close the gap for the Archers, with Gladiators continuing their strong defence play with 5 steals and a block during the final quarter. The final score was 75 – 38 to Gladiators. An amazing win for the Gladiators as they move on to their next game in the EuroCup against Neptunas this coming Wednesday, here at Playsport.
An amazing debut for Forward, Ri Harris tonight at Playsport with 8 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and a block. We all look forward to watching Ri play at Playsport for the rest of the season.
