Player announcements are well underway; can you tell us how you think the team is shaping up?
I’m really pleased with the team this season – there’s a good mix of returning experience and fresh energy. The core looks solid — the players who’ve stayed on provide a backbone of consistency, while the new additions bring some exciting qualities that should raise the overall level.
What really stands out so far is the balance: there’s depth in key positions, versatility in players who can slot into multiple roles, and a blend of proven performers with those who have something to prove.
What was the strategy for the recruitment process?
Our recruitment process was very intentional as we wanted to identify players who not only bring talent but also fit the way we want to play. That meant targeting versatile athletes who can contribute on both ends of the floor, as well as experienced voices who can provide leadership in the locker room. At the same time, we’ve added younger players who are hungry to prove themselves and can grow within our system. It’s really been about balance and chemistry. We’re confident this group gives us flexibility, depth and the right mindset to compete at a high level.
Tell us about the returning players and what you think they will bring to the court?
Our returning players are really the backbone of this group. They know the system, they know the standards we’ve set, and they set the tone every day in practice. Each of them brings something unique – whether it’s leadership, toughness on the defensive end, or consistency in executing the little things that don’t always show up on the stat sheet.
Having that continuity is huge. They’ll help the new players settle in quickly, and they give us a foundation of experience we can build around. I expect them not only to contribute on the court with their skill and effort, but also to lead by example in the way they prepare and compete.
What are you hoping to see from new signings?
With our new signings, we’re really looking for them to make an immediate impact. Players like Tierra, Annie and Maura, who have already played in this league, bring a wealth of experience and know what it takes to compete at this level. Their ability to stay composed in tough moments and lead by example will be a huge asset.
We’ve also added players like Brynn and Amanda who has competed internationally and shown they can contribute to different systems. That kind of versatility is exactly what we need — players who can adapt quickly and raise the bar across the team.
What excites us most is the mix: the proven quality from those who’ve been here before, combined with the hunger of players stepping into new roles like Ella. We’re expecting them to bring leadership, energy, and a competitive edge that will help us take the next step as a team.
A strong start to your Betty Codona Trophy Campaign, how do feel about the first game of the 2025/26 season?
Really proud of how the team performed over the weekend. Even without Brynn and Amanda due to some licensing issues, everyone stepped up, adapted, and got the job done. I’m pleased with our intensity and the way we sustained it for the full 40 minutes on both ends of the floor. There’s still plenty to improve on, but it’s great to come away with a road win.
