Caledonia Gladiators were unable to overturn a strong second-half performance from the Bristol Flyers as they fell to an 87 – 67 defeat on the road at SGS College Arena. After a competitive opening period, that saw the Gladiators down by just two possessions (5 points), the Bristol Flyers would begin to push their lead and take a strong 20-point win in front of their home fans. Despite a tough game on the road, tonight marked the debut of new signing Dwaine Jones in a Caledonia Gladiators uniform, who would chip in 4 points and 3 assists to the Gladiators valiant effort.

The Flyers established their advantage in the paint, finishing with 50 points inside and controlling the rebounding battle, while also sharing the ball effectively with 21 assists. The Gladiators battled defensively and forced nine steals, but struggled to find offensive rhythm, shooting 33% from the field (40% from 2) and 22% from beyond the arc, which made it difficult to keep pace as the hosts extended their lead across the second half.

Ethan Wright led the scoring for the Gladiators with 24 points, showing composure and confidence from the perimeter, while Jett Speelman added 10 points and continued to compete on both ends of the floor. LJ Bryan contributed nine points and eight rebounds, providing presence in the paint, while Matthew Ragsdale added six points and worked hard defensively. Despite periods of energy, effort and runs, the Gladiators were unable to close the gap as Bristol’s depth and consistency proved decisive. A tough shooting night for both teams would see the game being decided under the basket and at the free throw line.

The Gladiators will now turn their focus back to home action, returning to Playsport on the 21st of December for a Festive Doubleheader, where they will take on the London Lions with tip-off set for 5pm. The men’s game against London will follow our women’s game against Newcastle Eagles, which kicks off the doubleheader at 2pm.
