Caledonia Gladiators women conclude their regular season against Women’s British Basketball League and EuroCup Women champions, London Lions, as they travel to the capital for their final game before Playoffs. Having already secured second place, Chantelle Handy’s side is looking to gain a positive experience by competing against such a high-calibre team just ahead of the post-season.

In the sides’ only other Championship game this season, the star-studded Lions took a win at PlaySport – a dominant one, 51-86. In the game, Laken James led the way for Gladiators, despite the loss, with a solid 14 points, and Abbey Meyers and Megan Gustafsson were tied top-scorers for the Lions, with 15 apiece.

In the past few weeks, with the WNBA Training Camps starting, Lions have lost a lot of their roster but are still eager and pushing to book their place, and win, the final at the O2 in the middle of May. Megan Gustafson, Karlie Samuelson, and Shey Peddy are amongst the players headed stateside.

London Lions recently made British Basketball history, becoming the first British team to win a major European competition thanks to a game-securing shot from Holly Winterburn in the EuroCup Women’s Final against Bejiktas, which the Lions won 149-145 on aggregate across two games.

In Gladiators’ last game, a home win over Leicester Riders, that secured the hosts second place, Hannah Robb and Sam Roscoe led the way for Chantelle Handy’s side with 22 and 20 points respectively.

Travelling to the Copper Box for the first time since last February, when Gladiators won 67-68 and broke the Lions’ 52-game win streak in the Women’s British Basketball League competition – becoming the first side to defeat London since April 2021.

The game will be available LIVE on the Women’s British Basketball League’s YouTube channel at 12 PM!
