Gareth Murray’s Caledonia Gladiators are set to welcome their closest rivals, Newcastle Eagles, this Sunday, as Marc Steutel and his roster travel North for the teams’ first head to head of the season. The Gladiators hope to continue their run of recent home successes, as they hope to remain undefeated at home. However, for the Tyneside squad, they hope to return to winning ways, as they haven’t picked up a victory in three games.

Last season, the sides met five times, with Gladiators winning two Cup games, and Eagles coming out victorious in the three Championship outings.

Gladiators and Eagles matchups from last season.

Caledonia currently sit 6th in the BBL Championship table, with the Newcastle eyeing the playoff spots in 9th place.

David Sloan has been a standout performer for the Scottish side so far – averaging 21.8 points per game, a league-leading stat. Both himself, and teammate Jeremiah Bailey hope to continue a good run of personal form, with Bailey making the BBL All-Star five for the past two rounds of fixtures, and picking up the Exceed Footwear MVP award in the 91-76 win against the City Patriots.

For the Toon, American Guard Javion Hamlet has been leading the way, and will make for an interesting matchup against Sloan. He is averaging 19.2 points per game despite the Eagles’ struggle.
