Caledonia Gladiators can confirm that Cael Sweeney has been registered for Gareth Murray’s squad ahead of our weekend fixture against Bristol Flyers in the British Basketball League.

Alongside his local club, Glasgow Rens, Sweeney plays for the club’s successful High-Performance Programme, which is home to some of the best youth prospects in Scottish basketball. He will become the first men’s High-Performance player to join the professional squad within the club, following in the footsteps of women’s players Sally Campbell, Emma Kerr, Alix McIntosh and Zoe Sharpe in doing so.

Darryl Wood, who leads the men’s High-Performance Programme, said: “I am really pleased for Cael. This is a testament to the hard work he has put in here at 7 AM for workouts every day. His development has been excellent and now has the skillset at a stage where Gareth has noticed and invited him along to pro practice, where he again impressed. Also a big thank you to his local club Glasgow Rens for supporting Cael during this time. This is only the first step, now we have to continue to develop and push onto another level.”

Sunday afternoon will mark his first appearance in the squad, as the Gladiators take on Bristol Flyers in British Basketball League action. Read the preview HERE!
