Scotland’s professional basketball franchise Caledonia Gladiators has today (2 December) announced that renowned British basketball coach Robbie Peers will take on the role as Men’s Head Coach.

With a successful coaching career and an impressive track record in coaching and player development, Peers will a bring wealth of experience to lead Caledonia Gladiators in the current Super League Basketball season.

Peers established himself as one of the most successful and respected coaches in the history of the British Basketball League (BBL), winning every honour in the previous league set up. His extensive experience and strategic insight will be invaluable as he looks to elevate the men’s side in the Super League Basketball season.

Joining Peers as Assistant Head Coach is his long-time coaching partner, James Hamilton. Hamilton, whose coaching career has been synonymous with success alongside Peers, brings a wealth of experience and tactical insight to the Caledonia Gladiators’ coaching staff. Over the years, Hamilton has helped develop some of the league’s most talented players and has been an integral part of the success both in the BBL and beyond.

The announcement of Peers and Hamilton comes at a time of transition for Caledonia Gladiators. Lluis Riera, the former Assistant Head Coach who stepped into an interim Head Coach role after Gareth Murray’s appointment to the club’s High-Performance Programme, will be leaving the team to return to Spain.

Peers and Hamilton have already begun their work with the team and have commenced training at Caledonia Gladiators’ Playsport Arena in East Kilbride. The men’s side is preparing for their next away game against Sheffield Sharks on 6 December, followed by a home game against Manchester on 15 December. Peers will also return to Cheshire later this month, where he will face his former team, the Cheshire Phoenix, on 29 December.

Tony McDaid, CEO of Caledonia Gladiators, said: “Robbie Peers has a wealth of experience within British Basketball and his impressive track record and success, especially alongside James Hamilton, make them a coaching duo which we believe will be successful in leading our team in Super League Basketball.

“As we welcome Peers and Hamilton to the franchise, we say goodbye to Lluis Riera who has been fantastic in his role as Assistant Head Coach and Interim Head Coach for the men’s team. We wish Lluis nothing but the best in the next chapter of his career.”

Robbie Peers, Head Coach of Caledonia Gladiators, said: “Caledonia Gladiators is a club with ambition in every corner – from its world-class facilities to the passionate people behind the scenes.

“It didn’t take long to realise this is a team that’s ready to achieve great things. I’m honoured to join a club with such a strong foundation for success and a commitment to excellence on and off the court.”
