Gladiators player/assistant coach, Chantelle Handy has been selected to coach GB’s U20’s women’s team this summer for the FIBA European Youth Championships.
The Under-20s side are returning to action for the first time since 2019. The squad and assistant coach remain to be confirmed.
The Olympian and former GB captain is set to join the international coaching staff for the first time, following a successful start to this year’s WBBL campaign working under Miguel Ortega as a player/assistant coach.
Handy will travel with the team to Craiova, Romania between 28th July and 6th August to take on Germany, Ukraine and Switzerland in Division B of the U20 Women European Championships.
Upon selection, Chan said: “I am delighted to be leading the Under-20s this summer and look forward to working with the players and staff on board,”
This is a great opportunity for me to give back and share some of my experiences and knowledge as a player, but also take on the challenge of stepping into a head coaching role. I’m honoured to have the opportunity to help develop the youth coming through the GB programme.”
Next up, the BBL squad take on Manchester Giants this Sunday in the BBL Championship – TICKETS. Also, Chan and the WBBL side welcome Sheffield Hatters to town on Sunday 9th April – TICKETS
