A tough defeat for the men in their second road game of the weekend as they fell top of the table, London Lions. A tough, 45-point loss to the Lion heading into the international break, but the Gladiators will look to refocused for their next game on the road against the Surrey 89ers.
The London Lions game out of the gate strong, taking an early 6-point lead within the first few minutes of the game, but the Gladiators fought back to keep the game close, tying the score at 12 – 12 with 4 minutes left of the first quarter. However, the Lions would go on a scoring run to take the 8-point lead at the end of the quarter. The first quarter ended 22 – 14 to the London Lions.
The Gladiators would struggle in the second quarter, allowing the Lions to take a commanding lead entering half time. A 22 – 9 second quarter saw the Gladiators down 21-points. The Gladiators struggled to stop the inside scoring of the London Lions and struggled to score the three ball themselves, allowing the 21-point deficit.
The Half-Time score was 44 – 23 to the London Lions.
The London Lions would take the momentum into the second half, extending their lead even further during the third quarter. The Gladiators continued to struggle from behind the three-point line, scoring a low 4 of 22 for the game, against a strong London team converting 14 of their 23 shots from behind the line. The score for the quarter was 26 – 15 to the London Lions, giving the Lions a 32-point lead entering the final 10 minutes of play at the Copper Box Arena.
The final quarter would see the Lions continue their dominance at home putting up another 26 points in the quarter, taking their lead up to 45 points. The London Lions continued their strong shooting display from three in the fourth quarter, converting 6 of their 10 attempts from behind the three-point line.
The final score was 96 – 51 to the London Lions.
