A tough match up tonight for the Caledonia Gladiators as they headed to London to face the London Lions in pursuit of their first Super League Basketball win. However, Gladiators faced defeat in the Capital as they fall to 0-3 to start the Championship. However, a bright spark for Caledonia Gladiators was the debut of Nick Tomsick in Gladiator blue, who finished the game with 12 points in 23 minutes.
A tough first quarter saw the London Lions take a strong lead out the gate. Behind strong shoot and inside presence the Lions took a 13-point lead. The shooting struggles of the Caledonia Gladiators continued in the start of this game with the team going 2 of 8 from three in the first 10 minutes of action at the Copper Box. As well as poor shooting, the gladiators found themselves in foul trouble early, with the Lions heading to the free-throw line 8 times. The first quarter ended 27 – 15 to the Lion.
The second quarter saw a closer contest between the two teams, with only 2 points separating them during the 10-minute quarter. With Theo Hughes and Fahro Alihodzic in foul trouble early, finish the quarter with 3 fouls each, Tanner Stuckman stepped up to lead the team at half-time with 8 points and 2 rebounds. However, it was not enough to gain any ground with the half-time score being 49 – 35, a 14-point lead to the London Lions.
Another tight quarter followed the half-time break with the two teams battling in a 1-point contest in the third quarter of basketball at the Copper Box. Despite fighting hard and taking a one-point lead for the 10 minutes of play, the Caledonia Gladiators remained 13 points down entering the final quarter of play in this Super League Basketball match up. The Caledonia Gladiators continued to fight hard to remain in the game and were able to keep the intensity high and push the Lions. The third quarter ended with the score at 73 – 60 to Lions.
The final quarter of play saw the Gladiators down 13, with a mountain to climb to get back into the game against undefeated London Lions away from home. However, the London Lions continued their dominance and pushed the lead to 22 to finish the game 98 – 76.
