Chema Buceta confirmed his training camp roster for the upcoming preparation for EuroBasket, in which Gladiators stars, Erin McGarrachan and Robyn Lewis were selected amongst 15 of the country’s top talent.
The Scottish duo earned their spots within the highly competitive roster following impressive campaigns for both in the WBBL, with the side finishing second in Championship competition. McGarrachan, Gladiators’ captain, contributed with the highest points per game on the roster: 14.7, while Lewis, also a key part of the leadership team within the squad, contributed with 3.6 assists, and a steal per game.
This campaign will be the first without Chantelle Handy who retired following the country’s qualification to the tournament. Now, the Gladiators player/coach is focusing on her club responsibilities. Also, this summer, she will take to the helm of GB’s U20s side – working in a head coaching role for the first time in her coaching career.
Later this week, the two will join the rest of the GB roster in Manchester for practices, and will play four friendlies in the coming month, two against Czech Republic, and two against France.
From the current training camp roster of 15, 12 will eventually be selected to represent the country at EuroBasket (co-hosted by Israel and Slovenia) where GB will face Slovenia, France and Germany in Ljubljana on the 15th, 16th and 18th June respectively, competing for a place in the knockout stages of the competition.
