FIBA has confirmed the permutations for tonight’s FIBA Europe Cup action, which confirms how Caledonia Gladiators could advance to the second round of the competition in their European debut.
Put simply, Gladiators must defeat this evening’s visitors, SBB Bilbao, to be in with any chance of advancing – also relying on some other results across groups to guarantee a top-six runners-up finish.
- Bilbao heads into this evening’s contest having already confirmed their spot in the next round, currently comfortably holding the number one spot in the group – going 5-0 so far in the tournament.
- Gladiators could still qualify as one of the top six best runners-up out of the ten groups if they beat the Spaniards. Gareth Murray’s side would be knocked out and Anwil would advance if Anwil beat Sibiu (6 PM UK time), and we lose tonight.
- Anwil would be eliminated from the competition – and finish in third place – if the Gladiators win tonight, or if Sibiu defeat them.
- Sibiu, having lost all of their games so far, cannot advance even if they beat Anwil tonight.
Six of the best runners-up out of the ten groups will advance. Gladiators fans should also look out for the results in games: PGE Spojnia Stargard vs KB Peja (6 PM UK time) and Balkan Botevgrad vs Sporting CP (7.30 PM UK time). Alongside a Gladiators win, Spojnia must beat Peja by at least five points and Balkan must beat Sporting by any points.
