Caledonia Gladiators were beaten 55 – 62 by the Oaklands Wolves in a hard-fought Super League Basketball Women’s Championship clash at Playsport.

The game remained finely balanced throughout. The Gladiators edged the opening exchanges and led by five at the half, but Oaklands produced an impressive response after the break. A strong third quarter saw the Wolves outscore the home side 6 – 22 to take a slender lead into the final ten minutes, with defensive intensity and improved execution swinging momentum in their favour.

The contest turned in the fourth. Oaklands applied pressure defensively and capitalised on mistakes, with the Gladiators’ 27 turnovers ultimately proving decisive. The Wolves converted key opportunities down the stretch to close out the game and secure a seven-point victory.

Captain Tierra Hodges led by example with a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds, while the collective defensive effort kept the game within reach throughout. Despite the result, it was a performance full of fight and character that provides a strong platform to build on in the weeks ahead. The Gladiators will head back out on the road to take on Sheffield Hatters next Saturday in more SLBW Championship action.
