The Caledonia Gladiators were in action this Saturday as they headed down to face Durham Palatinates on the road. The Gladiators took the away win in amazing fashion, winning the game 68 – 85. A strong defensive performance aided the Gladiators in their 17-point win.
The Gladiators would show their strength in the first quarter of action. With the game initially starting close, the Gladiators would take an early lead, quickly doubling Durham’s score within the first five minutes of play. Keeping a strong play throughout the quarter, the Gladiators would take the 5-point lead at the end of the first quarter of action here in Durham. The score at the end of the first quarter was 16 -21 to the Caledonia Gladiators.
The Gladiators continued their momentum in the second quarter, increasing their lead and stunning Durham. A dominate 27-point performance in the second quarter saw the Gladiators take a 19-point into half time. A strong inside performance helped the Gladiators to take control entering the half-time break.
The Half-Time Score was 29 -48 to the Caledonia Gladiators.
The Gladiators continued their strong offensive performance in the third quarter, scoring another 21 points. The Gladiators pushed their lead to 28 points at the end of the third quarter, with just 10 minutes left of play. Strong defence by the Gladiators held Durham to 41-points over three quarter, however, Durham were not done fighting on their home court.
The final quarter saw Durham mount a late comeback, taking the final quarter 27 -16 but it wouldn’t be enough to overcome the deficit created throughout the first three quarters. With Durham increasing their defensive intensity they were able to cause the Gladiators to turn over the ball, and strong 3-point shooting, 3 for 4 from behind the arc, Durham cut the lead to 17 but it was too late. The Caledonia Gladiators won the game on the road.
