Caledonia Gladiators’ group stage opponents have been confirmed for the forthcoming 23/24 EuroCup Women tournament, following the draw in Munich, Germany on Wednesday.

Heading straight into EuroCup main tournament, bypassing the qualifiers, Gladiators, who are the only UK-based club currently in the competition, will face Israel’s Elitzur Landco Ramla, Belgium’s Basket Namur Capitale, and Portugal’s S.L. Benfica in Group G as the Seed 4 team. Caledonia will be set to face each of the other three teams in a home and away leg in a round robin system, meaning the Gladiators will play at least six games in the tournament.

51 teams entered EuroCup, with 48 making it into the regular season following three qualifying fixtures, all competing with the end goal of winning the tournament in April.

From all of the 12 groups across two conferences, all 1st and 2nd placed teams, plus the four best-placed 3rd placed teams will advance to the knockout stages, beginning with the first round of the playoffs.

The tournament entry is a historical one, as the team will be amongst the European elite, competing against some of the top teams in the continent. Gladiators are set to become the first Scottish side in modern history to enter a European women’s competition.

The club’s men’s side will also enter European competition in the Basketball Champions League qualifiers, dropping into FIBA’s Europe Cup if they do not advance to the group stages.
