Following a tough defeat in their last European outing, a huge defeat to Bilbao, Gareth Murray’s Caledonia Gladiators are set to welcome Romania’s CSU Sibiu to PlaySport, the side who were subject of the franchise’s first win in European competition, the hosts of the Scottish side’s debut Europe Cup game.

At home, Gladiators have been a force to be reckoned with – going 5-0 in all competitions so far at the state-of-the-art PlaySport facility. The biggest of which, perhaps, was the historic victory over Europe Cup reigning champions, Anwil. The Scots defeated the Poles, despite the side’s vast numbers of travelling fans, with a nail-biting 66-63 W, thanks to an MVP performance from Clifton Moore with 16 points personal on the night.

For Sibiu, in their last fixture, they were also subject to a heavy loss. At home, they only managed to put up 41 points against Anwil Wloclawek, who put up 79 of their own. In three games so far, Pavlin Ivanov has led the way for the Romanians, averaging 10 PPG, however, it was Mouhamed Barro who put up the most points – 13 – for them, in the loss.

Domestically, the side currently sits in 2nd place in group B of the Romanian division, having won 4/5 games, the only loss against BCMU FC Agres, the side who sit above them in the table. As for Caledonia, they have just concluded a tough weekend in the south-west, with a win against lion-killer Plymouth City Patriots, and a rough loss last night vs Bristol Flyers.

Undoubtedly, the fixture will be an unmissable one, as Gladiators look to maintain their home unbeaten run, whilst Sibiu are searching for their first win in the European competition this year so far.
