This weekend, Gareth Murray and Miguel Ortega both led their squads to impressive victories in the BBL and WBBL Championship against Cheshire Phoenix and Manchester Met Mystics. The prior came out victors in an emphatic 117-96 win on Friday evening, with the latter picking up a 65-57 W on Saturday afternoon following a six-week hiatus.

For the BBL squad, Jeremiah Bailey stood out, with an awe-inspiring 36 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. He was supported by fellow American, David Sloan, who recorded 23 points, five rebounds, and ten assists. Both players were recognised for their impressive performances in week 12 of the British Basketball League all-star five.

It was assistant coach Chantelle Handy who led the way for the WBBL side who came out victorious in a Christmas celebration win over Manchester Met Mystics in Paisley. Her 16 points, six rebounds and five assists were pivotal to the eventual 8-point victory over the Mancunian side.

However, the story of the evening was one of Kerry Mcghee. The 17-year-old competes with the Gladiators’ under 18’s and senior SBC squads. However, after impressing Coach Ortega, the youngster has received a few call-ups to the WBBL side. This performance in particular stood out, as she recorded her first professional points with a magnificent 9 points, 1 rebound, and 3 assists outing. The BBL side don’t have long to wait for action, as they face Leicester Riders away tomorrow in the BBL Cup Semi-Final, and the Sharks travel north this Friday to take them on in the BBL Championship – TICKETS.
