Defeat for Caledonia Gladiators tonight in France tonight against JDA Bourgogne in the Europe Cup. Gladiators fell to Dijon 102-62. A despite a strong start to the first quarter and a stellar game from Forward, Trevond Barnes, Gladiators were unable to stop Dijon’s mighty force.
Barnes started the game on a hot streak, scoring the first 8 points for Gladiators and ending the quarter with an impressive 13 points to lead all scorers on 100% shooting. However, with shooting struggles plaguing the Gladiators it would not be enough to take the lead in the first quarter. Gladiators remained within 2 points from Dijon with 2 minutes left of the game but with some efficient free throw shooting from Dijon, the gap was increased to 10 points to finish the quarter, 29 – 19 Dijon.
The second quarter saw the Caledonia Gladiators struggle continue from out with the 3-point line, shooting a low 1-8 as a team, following on from the 4-13 shooting in the first quarter. Despite these struggles, Trevond Barnes continued his strong play for the Gladiators, finishing the half with 17 points. Despite both team struggling from 3-point range, Dijon were able to use their skills under the basket to push the lead to 14 points after a relatively even second quarter. The half ended 46-32 to Dijon, leaving a mighty hill from Gladiators to attempt to climb.
The despite a more competitive second quarter, Dijon came out swinging from the half into the third quarter, with strong shooting from 2-point range and calm under pressure at the free throw line. Dijon was able to continue to increase their lead to 27, with the quarter ending 75-48 to Dijon essentially sealing the result with 10 minutes still left to play.
The Gladiators continued to fight with Dijon in the fourth, starting the 10 minutes by trading baskets with the French team. The fourth quarter started 6-6 during the first 3 minutes of the quarter but it wasn’t long until Dijon regained control of the play as they went on a 10-2 run for the following 4 minutes of play and putting a further exclamation mark on their win. The game in France this evening ended 102-62 to Dijon in this FIBA Europe Cup match up.
Tonight’s MVP was Trevond Barnes, who had a fantastic game despite the result this evening with a game high 27 points, 8 rebounds and 34 efficiency.
