This Sunday, the BBC Sport Scotland cameras will be back at PlaySport as Caledonia Gladiators take on Nottingham Wildcats in Women’s British Basketball League action.
Gladiators matched up with the Wildcats for the first time this season in December, making the game at PlaySport the second time the sides have met in the 23/24 campaign. In December, Caledonia travelled to Nottingham, with the Scots coming out 47-94 victors in a dominant performance that saw Alix McIntosh make her on-court professional debut, putting up an impressive 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in 13 minutes. Last season, the sides faced twice, Gladiators winning them both with 45-82 and 79-54 wins respectively.
Gladiators currently see themselves sitting in 3rd in the Women’s British Basketball League – continuing their on-fire form with a 10-1 record, their only loss coming to Sheffield Hatters – putting them just two points behind league-leading London Lions. Wildcats, contrastingly, sit second bottom, on a 3-10 record (their victories coming over Cardiff, Manchester, and Durham) – ahead of Cardiff Met Archers who have no wins this campaign.
Five Gladiators – Sam Roscoe, Hannah Robb, Bintou Lo, Yevheniia Putra, and Erin McGarrachan have all been averaging over 9 points a game. Bintou Lo, recently, however, has been huge for Miguel Ortega’s side – averaging 13.5 PPG, 12.5 RPG, and 1.5 APG in the past two games – with two MVP awards to go along with it. Mari Stewart has been the bright spot for Nottingham – putting up 16.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists a night.
The BBC cameras are back at PlaySport as the game will be live-streamed on the BBC Sport Scotland website and BBC iPlayer, following a successful first broadcast of the Gladiators’ win over Sheffield Hatters in their last home outing.
