The Caledonia Gladiators took a major victory to the delight of home fans at Playsport today in the first of two wins on a doubleheader game day. The Gladiators were up against Essex Rebels side and were able to get off to a roaring start and maintain their lead to finish the game on the winning side.
The first quarter was a dominant performance from the Gladiators, scoring 34-18 against the rebels. The Gladiators put on a show for the home fans at Playsport today from the very start of the game, starting the game shooting 4 – 5 from 3-point range and scoring a huge 34 points to stun the Essex Rebels and take control of the game early.
The second quarter saw a push from the Rebels scoring 21 points to Gladiators 20. Despite this, the Gladiators remained on top. Strong first half performances from Hannah Robb and Mathilde Domenger helped the Gladiators enter the half-time break up 15 points in this high scoring game at Playsport.
In the third quarter, the Gladiators took their momentum into the half and scored 24 points. With Essex being unable to match the home side, scoring 16 points upon the end of the quarter. The Gladiators put on a show for the home crowd at Playsport, with a commanding game, entering the fourth quarter with a strong 23-point lead. The Gladiators looked to put the full stop on the game in the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, the home side continued to show their strength scoring 15 points, while the away side made a final press, scoring 16 points. The game ended in Celebration for the team and home crowd, enjoying our first win of the day. The Gladiators took the game with a 22-point on home court, with the end score being 93 – 71 against Essex Rebels, behind leading scorer and today’s MVP, Delaynie Byrne. The win today against the Essex Rebels saw the Gladiators get back into the win column as they look to their Trophy Final Match-up against Oaklands Wolves at the end of January.
