Three Gladiators have been nominated for three of the British Basketball League’s monthly awards. Patrick Whelan, Yevheniia Putra and Miguel Ortega are in contention for the men’s Player of the Month, women’s Player of the Month, and women’s Coach of the Month respectively.

Patrick Whelan

The GB international guard has been a superstar since joining the Gladiators in the summer from Leicester Riders. So far in domestic action, he is averaging an impressive 13.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 5.3 APG.

At the weekend, his performance in the 94-100 overtime win vs London Lions was one of many top-tier outings in the British Basketball League for the British guard.

He is up against Sheffield’s Davearl Ramsey, Cheshire’s Laquincy Rideau, and Newcastle’s Jordan Johnson.

Following an impressive start in the Women’s British Basketball League, with some MVP calibre performances in November, Yevheniia Putra has been nominated for the league’s Player of the Month.

Since joining the Gladiators, the 20-year-old has averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds per game. Also, she has received her first call up to the senior Ukrainian national team, after representing at the U20 level in the summer.

Miguel Ortega

Leading the squad from the sidelines with a 5-0 record was enough for Head Coach Miguel Ortega to be nominated for the Women’s British Basketball League Coach of the Month.

Since joining the Gladiators last summer, Spanish coach Ortega finished second in the WBBL last year, and his side is currently leading the league table in first place with no losses.

He is up against Leicester’s Ben Stanley and London’s Stella Kaltsidou, the latter of which Miguel bet out to the league’s coach of the year last campaign.
