Following assisting the squad to a place at EuroBasket this Summer thanks to qualifying victories over Estonia and Portugal in the recent window, Gladiator Chantelle Handy has confirmed her retirement from international duties.

In the two games earlier this month, she averaged 8.5 PPG, supporting the squad massively with her efforts on the court. Also retiring from the international game is Chan’s GB roommate and good friend, Azania Stewart, who faced against the Gladiators for her London Lions at the weekend.

As a 19-year-old college athlete, Handy made her debut for GB across four games in EuroBasket Division B, then she played limited minutes, but went on to become a key member of the country’s women’s squad at the 2012 Olympics and four EuroBaskets.

Also, with England, she competed at two Commonwealth Games, in the Gold Coast and Birmingham, both of which saw her team win silver medals.

However, Chan remains focused on winning games and finishing off the WBBL season in style with the Gladiators, supporting the team on and off the court. Next on the fixture list is Sunday’s home fixture at the Emirates Arena against Durham Palatinates. Get your tickets HERE!
