The Caledonia Gladiators’ WBBL side are set to welcome Manchester Met Mystics to the Lagoon Leisure Centre, Paisley, on Saturday 17th December @ 3PM for a Christmas celebration in the Women’s British Basketball League Championship.
Miguel Ortega’s squad have went over a month without a fixture, so are excited to welcome fans back to Paisley for an exciting afternoon of basketball.
Despite a loss in the WBBL Cup in their last fixture to Sevenoaks Suns, the Gladiators are on great form in Championship competition – the team sit 4-1 across the five games they have played this season.
So far, Erin Jones has been leading the way for the Scots, as she is averaging 20 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Her entertaining performances saw her pick up the WBBL’s first Player of the Month award of the season.
Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear a Christmas jumper, or something Christmassy, and festive activities will be ongoing throughout the entire day. Even our WBBL stars will be showing up to the fixture wearing their most festive ‘fits.
Since the team’s last outing in mid-November, two of their stars, Erin Jones and Chantelle Handy have seen themselves involved at training camps and matchday squads for Great Britain. In two EuroBasket Qualifiers, the nation picked up one victory against Portugal in Porto in an overtime thriller. However, a few days later, were defeated by European giants Greece in Rhodes.
Ortega and his squad are excited to be back to competing in the WBBL, and have been practicing vigorously over the past few weeks to prepare to welcome Manchester to their home in Paisley.
For Met Mystics, this season has been a different story. The young, ever-developing squad are yet to pick up any points in WBBL Championship action, with an 0-7 record at this point. For them, Samantha Keltos has been leading the team. She is averaging 14.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game so far.
